The Middle East, and especially Dubai, is an important destination for the gourmet and connoisseurs of fine food and dining. Recent oil wealth, population growth and diversity, combined with the rapid expansion of the tourism and hospitality trade have combined to create a highly lucrative market for suppliers of premium and speciality foods.

Over 175 new hotels with a significant proportion operating in the five‐star category are due for completion by 2010 in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the UAE. UAE food industry is worth US$2.5 billion, 90% of which is imported.
